How to make a deco cushion

You have problems with the “4 bands around the design” method, but you want fabric around your stitching on the front? Here is a method where you sew the design directly onto the fabric, no fiddling about. For this you need: your standard sewing kit, your design, some fabric and filling.
First decide on the size of your design on the cushion. Here I took 6 threads of the linen (3 aida blocks). I stick a pin where I want to fold.
Fold along the line, and tack pins to hold in the right place.Do that all around.
Now the tricky bit: the corners. I go for a mitre method.Mark the fabric all the way to the corner, and flatten at the back as shown. Pin the corner down.

Here is what the design looks like with the pins all around. It’s now ready to sew on fabric.
Put the design on the fabric to evaluate the size you need to cut. Here I measured 6.5cm all around.
Cut 2 identical pieces, for the front and the back. Iron them.
Here you have the choice: sew with a sewing machine, or by hand. I usually do it by hand, especially for designs with a border.Choose a thread with a similar colour to the fabric. I prefer to sew by hand because I control things better. Here I do backstitches all around, next to the stitched border, so the sewing is invisible.

And here is how it looks front and back when finished.Next I measure the actual size of the fabric I leave around the design. If you sew the design onto the fabric by hand, you follow the design exactly and the sewing line at the back is a good guide. Here I measured 4.5cm around, drawing where the sewing will be with a pencil. Don’t measure from the borders of the fabric, but always from the design, otherwise if your design is sewn slightly crooked, the whole thing will be crooked too.
Put the 2 fabrics right side together, and pin them together. At this point you can also baste if you feel unsure. Then sew, leaving an opening to turn the whole thing and put the polyfill in.Below ou can see how it looks like. Trim the fabric, leaving 1-2cm around, and cut corners.

Turn the cushion inside out, and iron. Then you can fill and sew the opening as shown in the cushion tutorial. And there you go ! Here is the decoration cushion done !!!
